The Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces implement government decisions concerning the defence of Canadians' interests at home and abroad.

The Communications team works in collaboration with DND's Public Affairs and our clients to provide communications support to civilians and managers of civilian employees across the country. We provide advice, guidance and the planning and coordination of communications activities to support HR programs, policies and initiatives within the civilian HR organization as well as to the entire Defence Team.

The Communications Advisor is a creative and energetic digital storyteller with expertise in both content creation and social media. Reporting to the Senior Communications Advisor, the Communications Advisor will be responsible for engaging audiences and increasing awareness of multiple digital tools and mobile platforms. The Communications Advisor will be driving efficiencies on a national scale to streamline and create consistent messaging across the network. The successful candidate will produce compelling content and will thrive in a creative, fun and fast-paced Communications environment.

Your Work

  • Collaborate and support Communications Manager with creation of digital content.
  • Work with subject-matter experts and stakeholders across the organization in the creation of digital content.
  • Contribute expertise to creative brainstorming and concept development meetings, generating creative ideas to help increase digital channel performance and engagement.
  • Ensure all requests are consistent with brand standards and streamlined.
  • Create and manage digital content for internal and external audiences, including web content, social media posts, video scripts, etc.
  • Plan and implement digital content campaigns which drive engagement brand awareness and increase audience reach.
  • Research, develop, or write various digital communications products: professional social media posts, video scripts, newsletters, web content, advertisements, news articles, news summaries, media analyses, communications plans, multimedia content targeted to an internal audience, etc.).


Education Requirements

A degree from a recognized post-secondary institution.
